VIVAT ACADEMIA! Inauguration of the academic year 2022/2023

On Thursday, September 29, the ceremonial inauguration of the 2022/2023 academic year took place at the Polish Naval Academy. From today, 900 new students will start studying at the Academy.

At 08.30 a solemn Holy Mass was held in the Garrison Church of the Polish Navy on the occasion of the military oath of the youngest cadets and the inauguration of the academic year 2022/2023 with the participation of the management staff, combined with the unveiling of the plaque of Graduates-Knights of the Order of Virtuti Militari.

Exactly at 11.00 in the Auditorium of the main Library the ceremony began with a report being submitted to the Inspector of the Navy - Vice Admiral Jarosław Ziemiański by the commander of the ceremony, Cdr. Lt. Bartosz Kucharski. Then the Academy Banner was introduced and the National Anthem of the Republic of Poland was played.

His Magnificence Rector-Commandant of the Polish Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Prof. Ph.D. Tomasz Szubrycht welcomed the ceremony participants.

Then, the Rector-Commandant delivered an occasional speech in which he summarized the university's activities in the past academic year and presented the main intentions for the next year. He emphasized the achievements of our predecessors, generations of seafarers who created the current shape of the Maritime Museum on its 100th anniversary. At the end of his speech, he delivered the opening formula for the new academic year.

Information on the matriculation of first-year students was presented by the Vice-Rector for Education and Student Affairs – Ph.D. Jarosław Teska, PNA prof. Then, the newly admitted students took the oath and the song Gaudeamus Igitur was sung.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the new academic year, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, sent a letter to the entire academic community. Letters from the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak were also read.

During the inauguration, awards were given to academic teachers, including: for research, publishing, teaching and organizational activities.

The next century will be marked by the historic clock, which is located in the Senate Hall and was started by the Rector-Commandant and, just like the PNA, it is 100 years old!!!
