Rear Admiral prof. Tomasz SZUBRYCHT was born on October 1, 1963. After graduating with first place from the Faculty of Navigation and Naval Weapons in 1987, he began serving in the Reconnaissance Group of the 3rd Ship Flotilla in Gdynia.

 

In March 1990, he was appointed the deputy commander of the ship for reconnaissance ORP "Hydrograf". In 1993, he was sent to study specialized at the Naval Amphibious School in San Diego (USA), which he graduated with honors one year later. In November 1996, he took the position of commander of ORP "Hydrograf". In 1997, for the results achieved in reconnaissance activities during the BALTOPS exercise and the training of the crew, the ship under his command received a congratulatory letter from the Commander of the 8th Carrier Group, Admiral W. W. Copelland Jr. 5.

 

In 1997-1998 cadm. Tomasz Szubrycht was a student of postgraduate studies at the Naval War College in Newport (USA), which he graduated with honors. During his studies at the Naval War College, he also completed an optional course in international relations organized by lecturers from Harvard University and representatives of RAND CORPORATION. In 1999, ORP "Hydrograf", under his command, was named the best ship of the Navy in the group of special ships. In 2001, he was awarded the "Exemplary Commander" badge. The ship under his command made a significant contribution to obtaining the title of the best Reconnaissance Unit in the Polish Armed Forces in 2001 by the group of Reconnaissance Ships and awarding the group of Reconnaissance Ships with the Honorary Mark of the Polish Armed Forces. In May 2002, being the commander of ORP "Hydrograf", he defended his doctoral dissertation with honors at the Faculty of Navigation and Naval Weapons of the Polish Naval Academy. Already in December of the same year he was transferred to the Polish Naval Academy as an assistant professor. He was involved in scientific and didactic work. In April 2005, he was appointed the Head of the Center for Decision Analysis and Maritime Operations at the Faculty of Command and Naval Operations. In 2007, the Center changed its name to the Center for Analyzes and Forecasts of State Maritime Security. He was constantly developing scientifically, which meant that in 2009 he obtained the degree of assistant professor at the Faculty of National Security of the University of Defiance.

 

In the years 2010-2012, already as vice-dean for science, he was responsible for organizing the scientific activity of Faculty of Command and Naval Operations and for initiating and implementing cooperation of the Faculty with several national and international universities as well as scientific and research institutions. He is also the creator of the "Maritime Security Yearbook". In 2012, he became the Dean of the Faculty of Command and Naval Operations. Department headed by Rear Admiral professor Tomasz Szubrycht obtained the right to confer the degree of assistant proffesor. He is the initiator of the Military Training Program for Civilian Students at Faculty of Command and Naval Operations. Despite many directions of activity, he constantly improved his qualifications and took care of scientific development. The culmination of this work was obtaining the title of professor, which he received from the President of the Republic of Poland in 2013. He is a member of the Scientific Committees of several national and international security magazines. He is active in social organizations, including the Sea and River League and the Polish Nautical Society.

 

For his professional and scientific activity for the benefit of maritime safety and social activity, he was awarded, among others: Golden Medal of Merit for National Defence, Golden Medal of the Armed Forces in the Service of the Fatherland, Bronze Cross of Merit, Medal for Long Service, Medal for services to the Polish Navy, Medal„Pro Mari Nostro”, Medal of the National Education Commission, Medals for Merit to the Police, Badge of Honor "Distinguished Worker of the Sea", Medal of 90 years of the Polish Maritime Administration, Medal Milito pro Christo, and the Academy headed by him was awarded the Benemerenti Award of the Military Ordinariate. For cultivating the tradition of the Navy and the memory of the fallen, he was honored by the Director of the Polish Army Museum with the medal "Col. Bronisław Gembarzewski".

 

From January 23 2015 Rear Admiral professor Tomasz Szubrycht is the Rector - Commandant of the Polish Naval Academy. In 2016, he received the title of Honorary Professor of the Bulgarian Naval Academy, and in 2017, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Romanian Naval Academy. He is the author of over 200 articles, monographs and original works.

 

On the Midshipman Day, November 29, 2018, he was nominated to the rank of Rear Admiral by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
