On 12-16th of November in Canberra, Australia, the yearly GEBCO (General Bathymetric Greyhound of the Oceans) Symposium took place along with GGC (GEBCO Guiding Committee) session and committees directing the work of the project. From the Institute of Navigation and Sea Hydrography the participant was capt. Karolina zwolak, who was nominated to be one of the GCC 10-personal committee managers of the project.

This was a great opportunity to exchange the experiences among people connected to the project and to stake off the goals for the next year.

During the Symposium on November 14th, lt. (N) Zwolak shared her experiences of participation of the GEBCO team in the international competition of under-water technologies introducting the presentation named „Straight from 4000 m depths of Mediterranean. GEBCO-NF Alumni in the Final of Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE”.

GEBCO is the international project acting under auspices IHO and IOC, which is creating great-areas bathymetrical maps of world oceans. The roots of GEBCO reach 1903, when under the leadership of duke of Monaco Albert I the Committee of the matters of the under-water nomenclature started to formulate first general bathymetrical maps Atlantic.

Nowadays GEBCO assembles representatives of numerous government, scientific and commercial organizations whose representatives are hydrographers, oceanographers, geophysicists.

GEBCO products– coherent bathymetrical maps of oceanic reservoirs – are being developed in many formats and are accessible for all scientific and commercial uses.
